2025 Top O Level
My journey in Regent was both transformative and challenging. When I first
entered Regent, I found it hard to adapt to the new environment and new
faces. However, the school environment was very supportive which helped
me to be integrated in the school’s community seamlessly. Regent was not
just a place for learning but it also helped me to discover my strengths
and allowed me to cross boundaries I never thought I would.
At first, my academic journey in Regent was not smooth sailing. I was
faced with many subjects with higher levels of difficulties, and I had
to adapt to taking twice the number of subjects I did in Primary school.
One example would be English. From topping the class in primary school
to almost failing English in secondary school. To overcome this, I adapted
a different study habit and became more disciplined in my studies. I reaped
what I sowed when I attained a raw L1R5 score of 9 for my GCE O-level examinations.
I am now a student at Saint Andrew’s Junior College and it is all thanks
to my supportive and dedicated teachers. Regent broadened my horizons and
allowed me to look at things with a different light. On top of striving
for academic excellence, I remained committed to my co-curricular activities.
This allowed me to be more disciplined and responsible. Ultimately, when
I achieved a raw O-Level score of 9, I saw it not only as a personal achievement
but also as a reflection of the support and values instilled in me by the
school.
My experience in Regent Secondary School was mind-opening, and I made
a lot of unforgettable memories along the way. Although undoubtably there
were several hiccups and in some occasions, I had even questioned my ability,
I emerged stronger from those hurdles and managed to secure a raw L1R5
score of 10, achieving 5 distinctions.
A challenge I faced while at Regent was adapting my study methods to different
subjects. I had to figure out that memorizing concepts and regurgitating
them is not enough since exam questions are now emphasising conceptual
understanding.
The primary learning point I took away from Regent is being grateful for
my learning experiences. I am fortunate to be given the opportunity to
go to a JC. I have learnt to appreciate my studies and to be humble.
One piece of advice I have for all students in Regent is that you are
in charge of your grades and destiny. Teachers and friends can motivate
you as much as possible to study, but if you don’t put in the hard work
and commitment, you would not see success.
One of the challenges I faced was doing well for examinations. Coming
from Normal Academic initially had presented challenges in my pursuit of
achieving better grades. I was required to work twice as hard compared
to other Express students to achieve the same scores. Additionally, I had
to carry out my duties as EXCO for both Student Council and CCA.
I would often feel stressed during periods where I had multiple projects
to work on and examinations to study for. My grades had slowly declined
over the course of my secondary school life. It got to a point where I
failed English.
Determined not to repeat past mistakes, I took up more consultations with
teachers. I would constantly raise questions if I did not understand the
content taught in class. I also attended extra math lessons, provided by
the school, every Saturday. Eventually, after enough perseverance and hard
work, I managed to achieve five distinctions at my GCE O-Level examinations.
My success was possible due to the support of my teachers, peers, and seniors.
Regent gave me many opportunities to improve myself both academically
and education-wise. I would not be where I am today without Regent.
My four-year journey at Regent Secondary School was a profoundly meaningful
period of growth, learning, and self-discovery. Throughout this time, I
often found it challenging to balance my social life and time with my academic
responsibilities, all while taking care of my mental and physical well-being.
On many occasions, I felt overwhelmed by my workload and doubted my own
abilities and self-worth, especially when my results did not meet my expectations.
However, with the unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement of my
teachers, and the support of my loved ones, I gradually developed more
effective study habits while also recognizing the importance of mental
health. I began planning my revision in advance and maintaining consistency
instead of rushing work at the last minute, all while seeking advice when
the light at the end of the tunnel seemed out of reach. Moreover, I started
taking breaks, managing stress, and asking for help when my own thoughts
felt overwhelming. Through this process, I discovered an invaluable lesson:
progress takes time. Perseverance, determination, and mental well-being
are more important than immediate results.
One of the most important values I gained from Regent is resilience. Through
the numerous seemingly insurmountable challenges I faced, and the countless
times I felt trapped in a thick, dense fog of my own headspace, I learned
not to give up. The support of my teachers and loved ones helped me gain
confidence and to stay motivated, reminding me that I am never alone; that
I am valued, and perseverance is key.
Regent has played a major role in shaping who I am today, not only academically
but also in character. Thanks to the guidance and encouragement I received,
I am now pursuing my desired course—Business Studies at Ngee Ann Polytechnic.
My advice to current students is to believe in yourself, stay consistent,
and never hesitate to ask for help when you need it. When its seem hopeless,
help is but a heartbeat away, and the gentle support of the teachers and
loved ones can illuminate even the darkest path.
One of the learning challenges I faced as a Secondary 4 student preparing
for the O Levels was managing the heavy workload. At times, I found it
difficult to keep up with my assignments and often needed more time to
complete them. However, through perseverance and gradually improving my
time management, I learned how to cope better and meet my deadlines. I
know many of my juniors may experience something similar, and I hope they
will remember not to give up, even when things feel overwhelming.
Some advice I would like to share with current students at Regent is to
consider the Early Admission Exercise if you are planning to enter a polytechnic
course, make good use of SSUL sessions with your teachers, and most importantly,
persevere until the very end. There were moments when I felt discouraged,
but with the support and encouragement of my teachers and peers, I was
able to continue pushing forward. Their guidance played a big role in helping
me stay motivated.
Although this journey was challenging, it was a meaningful learning experience
for me. I have since graduated from Regent Secondary School with an L1R4
of 10, and I will be enrolling in Republic Polytechnic’s Environmental
and Marine Science course. I am grateful for the opportunities and support
I received throughout my time in Regent, which helped shape who I am today.
I studied at Regent Secondary School from 2022 to 2025. As an international
student who had not previously studied in Singapore, joining in Secondary
2 was not easy. I struggled to adapt to the different teaching styles and
curriculum, and the academic pace felt overwhelming at first. There were
moments when I doubted myself.
However, I chose not to give up. I consulted my teachers, clarified my
doubts, and adjusted my study methods. With consistent effort and discipline,
I slowly began to improve. My results became more stable, and I gained
confidence in my abilities. Through perseverance and the strong support
from Regent’s teachers, I achieved an L1R4 net score of 9 points for my
GCE O-Level examinations.
Today, I am pursuing a Diploma in Applied Chemistry at Singapore Polytechnic,
a course and school I have always aspired to enter. Regent has helped me
grow into a more mature and resilient individual, teaching me to keep going
even when I face setbacks.
To current students - believe in yourself, stay consistent, and never
be afraid to seek help. Your hard work will open the doors you once only
dreamed of.
Achieving an L1R4 score of 8 in the GCE O-Levels reflects the determination,
resilience, and perseverance I demonstrated throughout my four years in
secondary school.
Among those years, the final year was undoubtedly the most challenging.
The academic demands intensified, and the depth of knowledge required meant
dedicating significant time to revising even the smallest details that
could potentially appear in the examinations.
To stay consistent, I developed disciplined study habits. On weekends,
I would spend at least four hours in the library focusing on revision.
During weekdays, I committed even more time to strengthening my understanding
of each subject, especially those I found more challenging. This structured
approach helped me steadily improve and build confidence in my abilities.
Despite the immense pressure brought about by the O-Levels, I remained
fully committed to my Co-Curricular Activities (CCA). Balancing academic
subjects and CCA strengthened my discipline, time management, and perseverance.
The journey was not easy, but it taught me an important lesson: never give
up on your goals, no matter how difficult the path may seem.
Today, as a student at Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP), I am grateful for the
unwavering support of my teachers and peers who guided and encouraged me
throughout my journey. Their belief in me played a significant role in
my achievements.
I enjoyed my time in school because I learned a lot and had fun. However,
I faced a lot of struggles in my studies. My schedule became packed with
classes, and I often felt stressed out by all the homework. I found it
difficult to balance homework and revision. Sometimes, I procrastinated
completing the tasks and almost lost the motivation to study.
However, I got hold of myself and decided to give my best since it was
the last lap in regent. I decided to optimise time by trying to complete
as much homework and discussions during recess breaks with my friends.
This was helpful as I could make time for revisions at home. Personally,
I realized listening to music made studying more enjoyable as it has a
small element of fun.
As a non-athletic person, being in a sport CCA, was challenging due to
the vigorous training. However, this developed the value of perseverance
in me, which I applied in my academic aspects.
Additionally, I am grateful to my teachers, who provided me with opportunities
to participate in competitions and workshops. These experiences allowed
me to discover my post-education route.
I would suggest that student should seize the opportunities given to them
to develop their portfolio. The experiences gained would be beneficial
for personal growth or academically when they apply for their EAE.
I achieved an L1R4 of 8 for my O-Levels. My time in Regent has been very
fulfilling and uplifting because even though I didn’t do well for my PSLE,
I was still able to improve and succeed in the end.
Along the way, I faced a few challenges. One of the biggest was memorising
content for Humanities — there was just so much information and it felt
overwhelming at times. I also struggled with Physics concepts and found
it hard to keep up at the start. To overcome this, I learned to plan my
revision earlier and break my studying into smaller parts so I could remember
everything better. For Physics, I regularly consulted my teacher through
SSUL and clarified my doubts whenever I didn’t understand something.
One important lesson that has stayed with me is to keep persevering even
when things get tough. There will always be someone willing to help if
you are willing to ask.
Regent has helped me become a better version of myself. I made meaningful
friendships and stepped out of my comfort zone by trying leadership roles
in my CCA. Through these experiences, I became more mature and more confident
in making important decisions in my life.
My advice to juniors is: even during very stressful periods, especially
the days before exams, remember to give yourself proper rest and short
breaks. Staying calm allows you to perform at your best — both in studying
and during the actual exam.
