An Afternoon with our Alumni
An Afternoon with Our Alumni is a sharing session organised for our Secondary 4 and 5 students to gain greater clarity on the various admissions pathways into post-secondary institutions, as well as insights into school experiences beyond secondary school. Through the alumni sharings, our students will be encouraged to take ownership of their post-secondary journey, while being inspired to give their best in the final lap of their secondary school journey.
The session returned for its second run on the afternoon of 26 March this year. The atmosphere in the room reflected a growing awareness as our students began thinking more intentionally about what lies beyond secondary school. Through the session, the message came through clearly: pathways such as EAE and DSA require our students to start early, put in consistent effort, and approach the journey ahead with purpose.
The afternoon began with an opening address by Mdm Annie Teo, who outlined the various post-secondary pathways and highlighted upcoming ECG programmes designed to support our students in making informed choices. Her sharing helped to anchor the session, giving our students a clearer sense of direction while underscoring the importance of taking ownership of their decisions.
The participants then moved into breakout sessions, where they engaged more closely with alumni from a wide range of pathways, including ITE EAE, Polytechnic EAE, PFP, DPP, and JAE. The alumni spoke candidly, offering not only practical advice and tips but also honest reflections on the challenges, uncertainties, and growth they experienced along the way. In doing so, they painted an authentic picture of what the coming months would involve and what navigating pathways such as EAE entails.
Our students responded with enthusiasm — asking thoughtful questions, capturing key insights, and making connections between what they heard and their own aspirations. These exchanges did more than inform; they helped our students make sense of the pathways available to them, appreciate what each journey entails, and begin envisioning their own next steps. Most importantly, the alumni’s stories brought a sense of relatability and hope, reinforcing that while the path ahead may be demanding, it remains within their reach.
We extend our appreciation to the alumni for their open and thoughtful sharing. As our Secondary 4 and 5 students take their first steps forward, we hope that they do so with clarity and purpose, growing into self-directed and confident learners in pursuit of excellence.
